Gadsden-Etowah Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry that seeks to eliminate poverty housing in our community and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.

If you live in Attalla or Gadsden Public housing you would not qualify for this program as Habitat does not consider this to be substandard. We do not do repairs on homes, but build them new from the ground up.
REQUIREMENTS: A family's selection is based on the following:
1) Need: Living in substandard /poverty housing (e.g.-poor heating or plumbing,leaky roofs, overcrowding (three to a bedroom).
2) Ability to pay: you must have a gross income between $11,900- $28,560. per year.
3) Willingness to partner: You will be required to work 300 hrs. of sweat-equity helping build houses, attend budget counseling classes, help raise funds for HFH, assist where needed.
4) Residence: You and your familiy must have resided in Etowah County for a least one (1) year.
WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU: A) Photo I.D. (e.g. drivers license, etc.) B) Proof of current address: such as a utility bill. C) Three Letters of Recommendation from 3 non-family members stating why you need help with housing - include their name, address and phone number. D) Employer information: their name, address, phone number for the last 3 years plus name of your supervisor. Also, co-applicantís employer information E) Proof of Income: Most recent income tax return plus other income sources (W-2 form, two paystubs, documentation on SSI/ SS/ child support/ food stamps, etc.) F) Debts: name, address, phone number of businesses or persons you owe money to (e.g. car, car insurance, credit cards, furniture, dept. stores, individuals, etc.) G) Landlords: name, address, phone number for the last 3 years. H) Assets: checking or savings accounts, life insurance and auto information.

(No one under the age of 16 is allowed on an active worksite). All volunteers must sign a waiver prior to beginning work.
